I live in a beautiful rural area in the Scottish Borders with my husband. I am a full time carer to our young son George, who was diagnosed with life-threatening Type One Diabetes in July 2018 at a year old.
I look at my little boy and the obstacles he has already overcome in his wee life, and I strive for something more. To be the best I can be, for him. Regardless of the lack of sleep from having to wake up throughout the night, every single night to check his blood sugars, regardless of the days where we sit very still together waiting for his sugar levels to come back up. I get up, I show up, and I never give up.
Being the best mum I can be includes doing the things I love the most to give my own soul some nourishment, and that includes my writing and drawing. I make time for these, usually in that half an hour in the morning before George wakes up. Or when I have to stay awake through the night to make sure George's numbers stabilise. George loves the stories and pictures, and I hope other people out there will too.
