Beach at ZanzibarZanzibar holds a special place in my heart, our honeymoon destination, and a really special island. A glistening gem in the tropical turquoise ocean. We met some great people and only touched on life on the island. We would love to go back one day.

Child with Type One DiabetesChild Cherub with Type One Diabetes holding insulin injection needle and wearing a continuous blood glucose monitor on it's arm. Inspired by H Armstrong Roberts Cherub Painting. My son was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes age 1 year 2 months old. It had a devastating life changing effect on the entire family. Other parents, and families are hit with this same diagnosis. Many people are unaware of the disease, that someone who has T1D has to face daily injections with needles, and every aspect of their lives micro managed to ensure they stay alive and well. Hopefully this image can raise some awareness of the disease.

This is an EmergencySonia's Bistro was an iconic historic building in the Scottish Borders town of Hawick. A gathering place, a lovely place to eat. It was destroyed in the floods during Storm Ciara. Inspired by the images online inlcluding those by Bill McBurnie, I painted this after learning about the Historic Environment Scotland competition linked to Cop26, Visions of Climate Heritage. Hawick is spending some £90 million on flood defences to protect a town from waters which once ran the mill industries the town was built upon. Our local environment gets affected by changes in the climate. Businesses, and the people of the town, all get affected by the devastating flooding. It is up to every single person to try to make a difference, in what ever way we can. Future generations will thank us.
I wasn't sure whether to put this painting on zazzle to buy as a print copy, but thought it would be up to other people to decide if they'd want to buy it. I feel very lucky to have won the competition, with such a strong message behind it. Good things come to those who go for it. |

I have a BA (Hons) in The History of Modern Art, Design and Film, an MA in Heritage Interpretation and Education from some moons ago now. Neither of which had any practical work in them, a little regret! An other amongst others. Art is a means of finding myself and expression, after the birth of three children and one devastating illness which changed our lives forever. Finding a comfort in the brush strokes. Expressing a means of appreciation for my favourite moments. Generally, finding time to do something that I love to do is pretty difficult, but I find the time. Even if its 4am after a hard night battling death who stands at the foot of my sons bed each night.
I pause.
I remember a karate teacher once telling me I had to find my inner roar, and I do wonder how artists can develop such unique styles. At the moment, each of my works comes out a little different from the last. Perhaps one day I will settle on one form or medium, but I enjoy what I do and put a lot of love into each brush, stroke or other form. I did try other creative crafts. My paper mache animals for example, have been a complete disaster, but they were a fun process. Crochet makes me cry, I can't do it at all. I learned over time, not to try to be creative with cooking and just stick to the recipes in order to avoid making other members of the family cry. But I seem to be able to paint a little bit.
Like my books which are self-published on Amazon, my artworks are available on Zazzle as print-on-demand products, eg gift cards - or canvas prints if you prefer.
